Abby's Seahorse Friends

This website is all about different kinds of seahorses. We have games, pictures of my own seahorses and facts about different seahorses. I hope you have a good time at Abby's Seahorse Friends

My New Seahorse

I got this seahorse at the Oregon Coast Aquarium. I haven't thought of a name for her yet, but as soon as I do, I'll put it on this website.

Her favorite thing to do is to collect rocks. She put her tail around the rocks and then she picks them up and puts them in a bag.

This is strange for seahorses, but her favorite food is spaghetti.

To make this picture, what I did was to trace around the seahorse and then I just put some ocean details on the paper and then put the seahorse back in the picture. I got the idea from my sister Megan.

She has some friends whose names are Saraphina and Erica who are also seahorses.

Seahorse Facts

Here are some facts I know about seahorses:

  • Seahorses can dance
  • Seahorses can only bend thier tails forwards, not backwards
  • Seahorses like to eat brine shrimp
  • Seahorses can grow from 1" to 12" long
  • Seahorses only pick up things with their tails, they never pick up things with their fins
  • Seahorses like to swim with their tails hooked together
  • Seahorses use the fin on their back (the dorsal fin) to move them through the water and use the fins on the sides of their head (the pectoral fins) to steer and turn - like a car!
  • The female seahorse lays the eggs and then puts them in a pouch in the males tummy. The male seahorse takes care of the eggs until they hatch.
This picture is of a Sea Dragon which is a different kind of seahorse. I got this picture from a website called Flickr. I saw one of these at the Point Defiance Zoo in Seattle.
